LEARN TO DOSE WITH CONFIDENCE:
What is Microdosing?
Microdosing involves regularly consuming a very small amount of a psychedelic substance such as LSD or Psilocybin Mushrooms. An average microdose of psilocybin ranges between 50mg and 250mg, compared to a full psychedelic dose of mushrooms which is 2 grams on average. Subtle but profound effects are felt while microdosing, without your daily activities or responsibilities being disrupted.
Many individuals report experiencing various physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health benefits. These can include:
Increased inner peace
Increased emotional stability
Increased productivity and focus
Decreased addictive behaviors
Decreased negative thought patterns
How to Start Microdosing
It’s recommended to start microdosing on a day when you have no responsibilities, especially when you have a day off work. This gives you the chance to feel what kind of effects psilocybin microdosing has, especially when you’re in the process of figuring out the best dose.
The most well-known protocol is James Fadiman’s which involves taking one microdose every three days. The second day you’ll still feel the benefits as ‘aftereffects’ even though you’re not microdosing on this day. The third day you’ll be back to normal. This is a very important day off, however, to avoid building tolerance to the psilocybin.
Another well known system is that of Paul Stamets. He recommends taking a microdose every day for four days in a row, followed up by three days of rest. He also suggests supplementing with lion’s mane on the side because it has the same profound effects of neurogenesis (re-growing braincells) and healing neurological damage, as psilocybin mushrooms.
He also recommends supplementing with Niacin next to lion’s mane and psilocybin mushrooms. This is to ensure that the psilocybin is equally distributed within the system, for the greatest health benefits.
“This unique combination of compounds can be incorporated into other therapies with such combinations providing unique advantages for medically significant advancements in repairing neurons, removing amyloid plaques, improving mental health, cognition, agility, and improving overall the ecology of consciousness.”, Stamets says.
We recommend following the James Fadiman system, but you can experiment what works best for you.
Psilocybin has shown to be very effective at healing PTSD, depression and anxiety. These are often rooted in unprocessed emotions and childhood trauma. It’s important to take enough time and space for yourself as you’re experimenting and seeing how psilocybin works for you.
There’s a possibility that difficult emotions come to the surface, which is a good thing because we can only heal by allowing ourselves to fully feel. Make sure you feel safe and comfortable in the environment where you’re starting to experiment with microdosing. You could also decide to head into nature.
Most people prefer to take their microdosing capsule on an empty stomach in the morning. This ensures that it’s digested as quickly and easily as possible. Some people prefer to take their microdose at night which also works. It’s important to remain conscious of the fact that psilocybin can give a lot of energy, which could cause you to lie awake when taken at night.
Taking your microdose with food in the morning also works, although it’s best to avoid fatty foods. These could weaken the effects. If you’re taking any SSRI or other anti-depressant medications, please make sure you leave three hours in between your medication and the microdose. When in doubt about safety or any interactions, please make sure to consult your doctor or psychiatrist first.
Journaling would be very valuable to keep track of how psilocybin affects you. It can help with processing and healing emotions, as well as to boost your creativity. Once you’re familiar with the effects and have found the right dose, you can safely integrate the practice of microdosing into your daily life to receive its immense benefits.
